Fifth graders have taken their first capital quiz and done very well! I have had the students highlight the states that they are responsible for knowing in the front of their planners. You can also check the 5th Grade SS link to the right for a list of states and capitals your child should know.

Fifth graders are working on creating presentations for their Native American unit. They will be presenting their information to other classes on the 15th of September. Mrs. Acklin is allowing them to work on any projects that they are creating for their presentations during the next 2 weeks during art. Along with that time, students will be given class time to work on their presentations.

I will be uploading a file with vocabulary that we will use throughout 5th and 6th grade in Science and on into Jr. High and High School. Students have the information in their science notebooks as well. It is extremely important that students become familiar with the terms and learn them well. I will be giving assessments throughout the year to build and check their knowledge of the material.

5th and 6th. We will not be using palm pilots this year. In the past we have used them to help finish up documents at home. After surveying the students the majority of students have the internet at home, and all students have an email account provided to them through school. One of the biggest problems we encounter with students working on their home computer is opening the documents at school. We have several different operating systems in our classroom, so Mr. Cozine has recommended that we save our files as rich text format (rtf) files. If students want to save their document as a word (I know we have some '97 and '95 versions at school, and I have XP.) document and an rtf document that is fine. There is a link in the right toolbar of this page with directions for accessing the school server from home for the students.

Students should try accessing the server shortly after getting home (even if they don't plan on working on their homework right away.) That way if there are troubles, you can contact me for help or come up with a plan b. Unfortunately letting me know that a paper isn't done because there were computer troubles when the paper is due won't work. If all else fails... I accept handwritten papers just as well as typed papers.

In order to see all of the days on the calendar, you may have to scroll the page over with the scroll bar under the calendar. Everyone should be able to view the calendar now. If you are having difficulties viewing the calendar, please let me know right away.

Have a great week!
